I mentioned in a previous post about starting up with a personal trainer. So far, I have had three sessions with her and I am learning a lot – mostly about how much I really don’t know 🙂
Today she worked my legs – calf’s in particular. Lots of “explosive” type exercises. Let me tell you… I worked up a good sweat. We also worked on exercises to build my core, and improve my balance. It has been amazing to see the improvements come so rapidly, especially with balance.
I have not run much lately, mostly due to weather conditions. But that will change in the coming week. Thinking of going to NYC next weekend with my running partner to run Central Park. Sort of prepare for the half marathon. That will depend on weather.
Still so much to do. I have a lot of room for improvement in my dietary habits as well. I have not had my usual snack of Sun Chips or Doritos in probably 2 weeks now and have substituted raw broccoli, carrots and red bell peppers for snacking. I use a balsamic vinaigrette with olive oil dressing for dipping. It’s actually pretty good too.
Now I need to work on the types of foods I eat at dinner time, as well as portion sizes.
Back to the exercising… what I have also learned is that in 3 sessions, we have not even passed by any weights or other equipment. Everything we’ve been doing has been using my own body weight. We use things like the stability ball, 6 pound ball, 2 small kettle bells, a rope ladder on the ground (foot quickness, etc)… By the end of each session I definitely feel the burn.
In the end I truly believe this will help me in my running. Time will tell 🙂
